Cleaning the Stove and Refrigerator

I cleaned part of the refrigerator and the stove Tuesday, and I didn't use any harsh cleansers. Both of them definitely needed cleaning. Not my favorite things to do, you know?

I cleared off the first two shelves of the refrigerator and wiped them down with a non-scratch scrub sponge and a little cleaner I mixed up. That consisted of:

borax
warm water
dish soap
essential oil (peppermint)

After I put some of the stuff back on the shelves--leaving some things out to get rid of--I did the shelves on the door. There was a rather large spot where some cod liver oil had dripped (off the lip of the bottles) that I thought might be hard to get off but my cleaner did a good job on that.*

Then I tackled the stove. I used dish soap, water, essential oil and borax again though I didn't mix them up. The borax got up most of a rust stain that had been on the stove since someone left the cast iron pan on the stove overnight. Just the faintest ring remains and even that may come up if I scrub it some more.

For the nastiness under the burners (when you lift the top of the stove up) I used an SOS pad. That gets the guck and stuff up well. Do be aware that those pads have a lot of soap in them and you'll have to spend some time rinsing that off.

So that's done.

*Now I must disclose that after I wrote this, I told my husband that I had cleaned the spot on the shelf and he informed me that he had tried to clean it the night before but it wouldn't come off. Ha! Proof that my cleaner works. But then he said he put vinegar on it to clean it, so now I don't know if that softened things up for me. Sad face.

I am going to have to try some of these natural cleaners. I've always used commercial cleaners, but the ones that you use sound so fresh and clean and natural.
